Folds on Folds

As well as Ravel’s 150th, Hebrides Ensemble marks the 100th anniversaries of two late 20th century greats, Berio and Boulez, and this performance features a new dramatic song cycle commissioned from young British composer Jasper Dommett. Ravel’s lush Introduction and Allegro and Mother Goose Suite bookend Dommett’s Pli selon Pli (Folds on Folds) inspired by Boulez’s iconic work of that name. The concert ends with Berio’s wonderful, life-enhancing Folksongs, of which he said “When I work with [folk] music, I am always caught by the thrill of discovery…”
